Jump insights: how to feel empowered from home

Feeling empowered by the sustainability agenda

All of our lives have been altered by the coronavirus. We are constantly hearing in the news and the media what this might mean for our environment. Whether that is the positive impact on biodiversity resulting from lockdowns all over the world, or talk of a ‘green recovery’ and what that might mean for us as businesses, organisations, and individuals. But what does that mean for individuals who want to feel empowered to take sustainability action?

Our top tips for feeling empowered from home

Amongst all of this, it can sometimes be overwhelming to feel that our individual actions matter. Working from home has been a challenging time for everyone, and here at Jump we are providing solutions to help strengthen sustainability and wellbeing initiatives during this time. We have already explored how to keep our mental health in check whilst working from home alongside running our All Together April campaign.

This week we’re focusing on our top tips for feeling empowered to take sustainability action whilst at home!

1. Take part in digital campaigns

Our remote working set ups have taught us new ways of communicating. Many of this year’s biggest sustainability campaigns have gone digital. These can help us to feel empowered by giving platforms for action and participating through virtual communities. You could try going 30 Days Wild or take part in World Environment Day and Time For Nature!

2. Follow the impact of a campaign

At Jump, we also know that sharing success is a great way to empower people to take action. An easy way to do this is to follow the impact of a campaign and share these positive stories. This could be taking a look back at the outcomes from Earth Hour or Earth Day where an online community tackled 24 hours of action. Even further, you could download an app to share your air quality; take part in a solo clean-up or even become a citizen scientist!

3. Pledge a sustainable habit at home

As engagement experts, we know that encouraging small changes in our behaviour can add up to a big difference. This could be a great time to pledge a sustainable habit at home. That could be thinking about your water footprint, energy efficiency, reducing waste, or opting for plant-based meals. Did you also know that running your bath one inch lower can save an average of 5 litres of water?

4. Make time for reflection

Although this is an uncertain time that we are all living through, there are some great opportunities to make a positive behaviour change! Take some time to reflect for yourself. Whether that’s being mindful on a walk or over a cup of tea. Ask questions and discuss with colleagues, friends and family how you might best support one another to feel empowered from home during this time.
